Thanks for the advice in the tech topics forum folks. :)

How's this for hot? in the second pic, the heater is off, extinguished, out, but it's still glowing and you can see the heat 'mirage' still eminating from it. I think I might have started some kinda mini nuclear reaction there for a while, the heat element was almost white. :) :)

For those that helped me, the original heater is toast, there are parts missing from the chimney and it is doomed to be a smoke signal generator. Sears parts direct says the only part available for that chimney is a 1/4-20 nut that holds it together (gee thanks, 1/4-20 is so damn hard to come by!!!). All 12 other parts are discontinued and unavailable.

But this one cleaned up real nice and it's pretty damn hot too. :)

Re: Fixed My Kerosene Heater!

Years ago , befour terrorism was a term. I had a telephone that gave me lots of trouble,I fixed it the way your stove needs to be fixed. I took it to the middle of a large plowed field and duct taped a stick of dynamite to it,cut a 4 minute fuse lit it and backed off to watch. My kids and nephews still laugh about the little bell flying in the air. This approach will cure your stove problems. Might save your life befour the dam- thing blows up. :D

I should add that it also burns perfect at the usual flame height, nice red glow. But I needed to get a pic of this when I saw how hot it was getting at WOW (wide open wick). :)

Re: Fixed My Kerosene Heater!

I was thinking that, might be the bellows too, or it might just need to be realigned.

The Sears one that was giving me so much trouble, I made one more valiant attempt to fix it, and thought I had it. I found some parts in a box that I thought were all of the missing chimney pieces. Finally wasn't smoking so I said great, I set it up and went in the house. Came out 10 minutes later and my garage was full of thick black smoke that was starting to settle soot on everything. I extinguished it, opened the door, turned on the fan, and proceeded to take out my frustration with the damn thing with a 10 pound sledge. Needless to say it's definitely not going to work now. :) Little kerosene spatter here and there but the theraputic value was well worth it.

:)
