I HAVE JUST BAUGHT A 1974 85HP JONSON AND ON ITS FIRST REAL RUN GOT A FLAT BATTERY JUST WONDERING HOW TO TEST CHARGE CIRCIT AND WHAT TO LOOK FOR TO FIX MY PROBLEM?

Check your voltage when running under power..<br /><br />If its changing, it should be around the 14.4 volt mark...<br /><br />You can either wire up a voltmeter, or just beg/borrow/steal a multimeter and hook that up at the battery..<br /><br />If the voltage stays around 11-12volts, then your battery is not charging.<br /><br />rgds<br /><br />Franki

Then you can replace Rectifier/Regulator to solve the problem!!

Let me through in .02 worth.<br /><br />Might want to also check other accessories on the boat. You might have something draining the battery. Radio, lights, bad wiring can take a battery out if a short exists. Once the engine starts, it really doesn't need the battery any more.<br /><br />How old and what type battery have you got?

THANK YOU ALL TOOK YOUR ADVICE AND REMOVED RECTIFIER AND TESTED IT. THAT IS MY PROBLEM THANKS AGAIN :D :D
