OK this may sound dumb but i have tried everything i know how to do I have a 1988 45 horse mercury motor i took the carbs off and cleaned them and put new gaskets back in the m well before i took them off i noticed the gasket on the outside of the float bowel was gone and it had been leaking gas well when i rebuilt the carb i installed both gaskets on the screw well now the float bowel wont fit on the carb right there is a gap at he top if it ake one of the gaskets out it fits fine but leaks gas and wont run but with both gaskets in place the float bowel wont fit any body have ny ideas on how to fix this problem thanaks

In this picture are you talking about item 12, gaskets? As you will see there are two of them and one goes on the outside, next to the screw head and the other on the same screw after it has passed through the bowl.

Hope this is what you mean.
