I just got the Seloc manual for my 73 Merc 1150. Was having trouble that motor started fine, idled great but wouldn't open up. was revving up just enough to get a wake. Plugs were wet when I took them out, had some people tell me to check floats. I took the carbs off cleaned them out thoroghly. I checked the floats and by the instructions in this manual they were sec 1/16th too high. The book says set the level upside down from the 'rib' on the housing. I took this to mean the rib that sets down inside the edge of the float bowl and not the face that bolts to the top of the carb. Am I correct in that meaning? Either way they were set too high, but I am wondering if I have set them too low. Ok that aside I have it back together.

I decided to check the timing belt, that was another concern after talking to some in here. I brought #1 to TDC pulled the cover off the top of the pulley for the Distributor. Turned the flywheel back so that the timing mark lined up with the center of the Distributor shaft. The arrow on the Dist. pulley was off to the right of the timing mark by about 1/4". So i removed the belt and lined the pulley arrow back up on the mark accrding to book inst. Put everything back together.

Ok now. I start on the Sychronizing chapter of the book. I have used a lot of manuals over the years working on cars, and so far this is the hardest to read manual I have ever come across

I started the motor. Once I got enough fuel to the carbs it runs fine. Restarts better than it did before. Did some minor adjusting on the mixture screws to even it out a bit. Put the timing light on it and it's showing it idling at about 2 deg after TDC. The book tells me to run the trottle up until it's 2 deg BTC and then adjust the primary throttle stop to just touching the Carb lever. Problem is that it's already touching the carb lever and actually moving it a little. if I rev it up much, its flooding the carbs and stumbling. It alsmost seems like my problem is that it's giving the carbs too much fuel before enough advance is dialed in. The bracket looks to be all the way to the end of the slots and I can't back it off anymore. I must be missing something here. Linkage out of whack or cable to tight,,, what?

ANyone who can explain what this book is trying to tell me for a procedure for Synching it up i would appreciate it.

Thanks
Sarconastic
