I have a 2002 Wellcraft 180 Fisherman. It came with a Johnson Pump Company bilge pump and float switch. There was a "meltdown" sometime last year; I assume the float switch got stuck during trailering.
I just purchased a new pump and float switch by the same company. The float switch has 3 wires just like the old; I wired them to the same 3 wires that the old switch was connected to, but it does not start the pump when I turn it upside down. These 3 wires (brown, brown w/red stripe and black) disappear into the wiring harness and the brown and brown/red make their way to the back of the bilge toggle switch on the dash, both connected to the same terminal; the brown wire from the pump is connected to the other terminal at theback of the toggle.
(The new bilge pump is connected to the same two wires the original was connected to and it runs fine when I raise the toggle on the dash.)
The only fuse I could find marked "bilge" was replaced at the fuseblock.
Could the float switch have it's own fuse elsewhere than the fuse block? if not, what am I missing?
Please Help.
