Floor options.

Hi all. I'm looking for recommendations for a floor coating. I would like to remove my cockpit carpet, and replace it with naked feet friendly floor coating that I can paint or roll on. I like the idea of not having carpet, that can stain, trap moisture etc. I have seen some textured floor coatings, just wondering what is recommended for longevity, ease of application, etc. Thanks in advance!

I am using Tuff Coat on my flooring. I got mine from ********, but Cabelas, others carry it as well.

Boats don't have floors. It is a deck or sole.

What boat? How big of an area? Got any pics?

There's a fair number of options, but ease of application will depend on your skill level.

Its a '95 Wellcraft Eclipse 210SC, looking to do the cockpit area, and under the rear bench seat. Im guessing about a 40 sqft area. Can't get the pics to upload. I am mechanicly inclined, and my wife is an artsy kind of gal, so I should be alright. Just dont want anything I have to spray on, but want something that is durable and seals pretty good, and wont peel

I used Durabak on one of my restorations, and then I gel coated the second one, and then used snap in carpet. Both worked well, but the snap in carpet direction gave the classiest looks and sound deadening. The durabak was great fro fishing.

Its not that their being critical its knowing the proper terms to describe what your doing so your can he helped or not. Your the one asking.

We assume that you came here to learn, BLS. Perhaps you didn't expect to learn an item of correct boat terminology, but there it is. No criticism intended, just information.

I used Skid-No-More. I tried it straight first, but was unhappy with the poor coverage. I bought a second gallon, and mixed it with a quart of dark blue (Olympic Celestial Blue) semi-gloss exterior alkyd. It covered much better, and I like the color- fairly close to the original carpeting. It's grippy but no abrasive, so I think it will be fine on bare feet. I can't comment on longevity, since I haven't used the boat yet.

I recomend durabek or textured gel coat. for a coating otherwise I say seadek is a great product and easy to install. for the nicest deck there is flexiteak or other simulated teak. It depends on skill level, time you want to spend on instalation and how you like to use your boat.

There's also a product called Kiwi-Grip that several on this board have installed and been happy with.

I prefer marine vinyl, but it's a sheet good.

Actually, I am aware of the terminology of "deck" and "sole". I would have to say that most people knew what I was talking about, since my question was answered by more than one person. Strictly my opinion, but I associate "deck" with large commercial or Naval vessels. I associate "floor" with smaller private pleasure craft. Not trying to be a jerk, but the tone of your writing seemed condescending. At least to me, it did, hence this reply. I appologize to anyone, whose pet peeve is lack of boat terminology, for not using the correct terms. I am used to being out with my other boating buddies, where we never use the correct terminology. We say left and right, instead of port and starboard, front and back instead of bow and stern, etc. We do however know the terminology, and use it when communicating with lock masters, coast guard etc.

Thanks everyone for the recomendations. I REALLY like the flexiteak, but I can see it being too expensive. I think I will be using the Tuff Coat. It seems like it will fit the bill, and should make my boating experience all the more pleasurable. Thanks again guys!

I used restor for decks from home depot it also states on the box it works on fiberglass decks. it loods like rino liner and seems to be tough but make sure it is very well mixed. it looks good i'll see if it lasts.

What ever you do, do not do it in "BLACK" HOT HOT HOT, UGH!!!~
