Its really not that big of a deal, if you can handle a time consuming project. The materials won't cost you all that much, but you'll spend quite a bit of time out there.
Tools that will be helpful:
Sawsall to cut out the deck
4" angle grinder for all sorts of things.(cutting and grinding) will end up being your best friend.
Dremel
Heavy duty wet/dry shop vac
a shovel possibly to get old foam out
Cordless drill
Palm sander
A ton of throw away cheap paint brushes 2"-3"
4" foam rollers for the big fiberglass jobs
Acetone
Fiberglass roller
mixing cups
Materials:
Polyester Resin was what your boat was made of..might as well use it again. Epoxy is probably better, but is double the cost in most cases
Fiberglass..I used CSM for my stringers and deck with a final layer of 6oz cloth on top of my deck.
Plywood..I used outdoor 19/32, $16/sheet and lowes. Turned out really strong and solid.
Stringers..I used 2x10 Pine. Bedded them in Resin and encased in CSM. Again, very strong and solid.
If you are putting carpet back in and gluing it in, you don't really need a top coat for your deck..but might want to consider it for even better water proofing. I layed down Gel Coat, because I'm putting snap in carpet back in. Durabek is a good product, Easy Poxy, Marine Rustoleum...ect.
Good luck..and post lots of pictures..the members here are amazing and will offer you great advice.
If you'd like, my thread with lots of pictures is linked in my signature at the bottom of this post...its a fiberglass boat deck and stringer restore.
Take a look at this link as well..a pretty amazing deck and stringer restore.
