Fluid leakage from outdrive

I noticed today that after I had stopped on the lake to do alittle fishing, there appeared a little shinny fluid floating on the surface of the water. I know it is not oil from bilge and I don't think that it is lower unit oil..could it be un-burned gas from exhaust? I am still trying to get my engine to that "happy place" so carb may still need some adjusting. <br /><br />Any ideas as to where to look first?<br /><br />-JustMrWill<br />'87 Regal Majestic 4.3l OMC V6

Could also be trim fluid from your trim rams or lines.

Re: Fluid leakage from outdrive

First thing to do is to find out EXACTLY where it's coming from, so that you or one of us can diagnose what it is, and fix the problem. First find out if it's engine oil, drive oil or hydraulic fluid. Once you find out what kind of oil/fluid it is, then start looking for possible leak spots or symptoms of the engine leaking/burning oil out the exhaust. I blew an oil seal on my Alpha One outdrive a few weeks ago, and it dumped the entire contents of the oil out.....good thing I noticed it before I burned up the outdrive. Keep a close eye on ALL of your fluid levels till you figure it out.

The amount of fluid was equivelant to about 3-4 drops maybe. I noticed it when I brought the outdrive up...before that I didn't see any. I am leaning towards trim fluid because last year I couldn't raise the outdrive and foudn that my fluid was low...is fixing this hard?

Take your boat out of water and hook a "fake a lake" to it..Then clean out bildge area real good and place papertowels-etc.. in bildge (tape them if necessary) then crank engine and run your drive up and down..this will test hoses..etc. inside boat/transom...may also at same time place clean cardboard under outdrive to see if any leaks there..hope this helps...pete
