My son's buddy came down to the keys for a week of fishing, soon after leaving the dock 1st day enging overheated.I was in the business back 10 yrs ago ,so I offered to help.!st thing I found was a broken impeller. The HUB broke and to my suprise it was plastic.Replaced with genuine yammy and was suprised it too is plastic hub.Was yammy always plastic and I didnt notice??is this a common problem?and does anyone make a STRONGER impeller?Ok I get her back together, the engine is clean clean.Put the muffs on to check shifting and pumping.NO water from pee hole.Damn, try flushing the pee hole, all clean.Try running again. No better,in fact after a few minutes the heat horn goes off.Pulling my hair out,I drop the gearcase again. Now the problem was OBVIOUS,broken hub on impeller, how easy can it get.Check everything.Put back together,no change.I make a few calls. One friend a mech.said put it in the water,it will be fine.He was right.pumped great. Now I want to know WHY.After all,Im sending water to the pump, under pressure and cant get a pee.Enlighten my guys,Ive been away from outboards to long to know the secrets.

I had the same problem on my F150. I got the answer on ClassicParker web site.

What kind of muffs do you have? I know sounds stupid but I bought a nice pair of rectangular ones so they would fit all nice and perfect. Wrong, Get the cheap round one?s at West Marine, pees perfect and runs like a charm. Go figure!
