Pics not needed.

Remove the nut (1 5/16). Use a three bolt puller and three 5/16 fine bolts.

DHP

Re: Fly wheel needs to be removed

Thanks..

I'll try that. Is it easy to rebuilt the 1978 engine? Because mine's needs to have the engine block rebuilt? While running the engine made a loud noise and stopped. I had to be towed out . When we checked the engine, we found a hold in the engine block by the starter. The hole was caused by a cylinder . The screws broke off causing the damage. I really don't know what else broke. In order to open it up I need to losen the flywheel. I ordered the seloc manual, hope it helps. Well, I hope the little experience and knowledge I have can helps....

Re: Fly wheel needs to be removed

I recently rebuilt my 1978 Johnson 115 . It was the first outboard I ever rebuilt and with my manual, and help from the guys here it was relatively easy. I read the procedure several times before I started , and during the rebuild. When you take the motor apart keep all parts together, ie: connecting rods and caps, needle bearings etc. I marked a zip-lock bag with 1-4 and kept corresponding cylinder parts in these bags. The connecting rod caps will only go one way . I marked mine before disassembly, made it easier to put back together.
Good - Luck,
KYHunter

Hi Eddie!

If I may offer a peice of advise. When you start working on your motor rebuild please stay with this thread.

If you open a new post each time you have a question its very difficult to keep up with your progress.

Some of the most helpful people on the forum will not try and trace back through your previous post.

Even if it goes into the hundreds....stick with this thread.

Good luck!

Okay,Goodoleboy

I will stay with the same thread. I started today, but had to stop. I need to buy a pulley to take out the flywheel. I have a pulley, but its for cars an it's not a 3 -bolt pulley...If I run into problems I'll post it on this same thread. Thanks to all..

DHPMARINE was talking about a harmonic balancer puller, which can be used as a two or three bolt puller and is less than $20 most places. Use the puller he suggested along with 5/16" fine GR8 bolts and pulling the FW will be easy and you won't damage anything. Avoid pulling by hooking on the edges of the FW. Click on the link below for a picture of the puller.

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=035512
