Followup: the issue was low voltage to the starter.
Solution was removing the 2-battery switch and connecting battery direct to motor
Boat still running
Thanks all for help!

If a spark plug comes out with rusted tip there's a water intrusion going on in that cylinder, mainly due to a bad cylinder head gasket, exhaust cover gaskets if having them or a combo of both. Retorque the whole powerhead to factory specs, if keeps rusting that same plug change both gaskets for new ones, clean well all mating surfaces beforehand and torque to specs, retorque after first 5-10 run hours.

Happy Boating.

Sandpaper all wire ends until bright and shiny, if you haven't already done that. On the battery switch -- if you wire it in again, make sure the engine is off when switching between batteries. And since a switch was in play before, make sure the charging system is working properly (chance that the rectifier was shorted).

Keep your oil mix high 55/1. And check your gear oil. You are doing exactly what i would, wounded battleships make for interesting times
