I have a 71 Johnson 60hp that I am getting running. I've got spark and in the rush to hear it do something I sprayed some gas in the carbs while cranking it.

Long story short, I had forgotten to torque down the flywheel and sheared the flywheel key. Is this something I can pick up at the local hardware store? If so, what size do I need?

Thanks,

Gary

No, get it from a BRP Evinrude dealer. Hardware store keys are not adequately hardened. And make sure to clean the bore and taper of all oil, etc and torque to the correct value. You may have to lap the two if they've gotten buggered at all, but do not remove too much in the process.

Get one from the dealer. Usually made from an equivalent of 4140 material.
