Flywheel Magnets

One of the (6) magnets on the flywheel of my 1994 90 hp Force outboard (made by Mercury) has split into a few pieces. Not exactly sure how this happened, but I called the dealer in my area and was told the magnets themselves are are not offered and I'd have the buy the entire flywheel to the tune of ~$300.

Anyone know if I might be able to find a replacement magnet by another means? If not one specifically listed to fit my motor, perhaps I could match it up on the dimensions of any of the other 5 (every one is identical).

I'm tempted to even dremel one down by hand from a larger block if worse came to worse, but not sure how close the field strength would have to match that of the others.

Thoughts?

Look on Ebay, I bought several of them on there and never paid over 100.00 for any of them.

Dont try and fix it- Frank or Jerry will be along soon with suitable replacements -i.e- a 45 HP Chrysler flywheel, a Merc 70hp etc ( dont use these). Frank & Jerry know thier stuff!!!

Usually trying to replace is not good.
You might get lucky,I doubt it.
Like sschefer said E-bay.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I glued what magnets where left back on a-la dollar store super glue and will give it a try tomorrow.

I attached a pic of what things looked like beforehand.

Any chance I could PM "Frank or Jerry" to see which flywheels might work in my application? There are some stampings on mine I wonder which would be of any assistance...

Luck was on my side, I guess, 'cause it worked. There's probably 5-10% of that magnet missing but she starts and idles fine, tho I haven't run it at high rpm or under load yet.

Will there be any chances of damages/danger if the magnet comes off while running? Hopefully the centrifugal force and magnetism will keep it safe. Good Luck! jow

Yea, that thought crossed my mind, but what could possibly go wrong with $ store glue? Will keep my fingers crossed and thanks.

Lol, try JB weld if any more problems. Works great when surface prepard
