I have a 1984 Mercury 150 and I need to replace my stator. When the flywheel is removed, is it splined or keyed to the crankshaft?
The book says I need to set the timing after replacing the flywheel. Do I really have to do this?

As long as you don't mess with the trigger, you'll be ok...

Re: flywheel removal-stator replacement

Thanks for the input on the flywheel. I am having a little trouble removing the nut on top while trying to hold the flywheel still. There is a tool to hold the flywheel I don't have, C-91-53-2344, so has anybody inprovised a holding tool on a 150?

I read where using an impact wrench works, just checking if it can be used on my engine?

Go to the hardware store and get a "grip wrench" set like they show on TV. Use the big one and the small one together to make it around the flywheel. They open jars good too!

Almost forgot, you will need a puller tool to get it off once the nut is loose.
