Is the mercury flywheel removal tool universal? Or do I need to look up a specific one for my engine?

And I've asked this before but I'm going to ask again because I really want to be 100% sure.... the eye-hook part that comes with this tool, is that save to support the entire engine weight? So I could pop it off to do the steering or something like that if I needed to?

I recently purchased a pretty generic puller/lifting tool for my mercury. The tool says it fits most mercury 45hp and up, but it fit my 2004, 40hp just fine. I have used it to pull the flywheel, and lift the entire complete outboard off the boat. That is what it is designed for. As long as your flywheel is threaded internally to 1 1/2"-16 TPI, this same puller will work.

Like flyingscott is asking, you need to know what one to buy. They are super handy to have once you know.

Its a 1989 3-cylinder, 2-stroke 90 HP
This is the tool I saw, multiple versions of it but they all looked very similar.
That one also says "for most 45HP+ Mercury"

That is identical to mine. I'm guessing they all come from the same factory in china. It should work for yours as well. Measure the flywheel hole, if it is 1 1/2", that tool will work.

That works on my 99 90 hp so should work.
