Flywheel turns when i turn steering wheel?wtf?

I took my gearcase off to rebuild my skeg, and pulled my motor to change a blown piston ring on my 90hp 1990 force l-drive, both at the same time.

Now that everything is back togther..without the engine running.. When i do a full rotaion on my steering wheel the flywheel actually turns on my engine a little bit, i really dont see how that is possible. Any ideas?

Also the engine was running perfect when i started it up and tested it before i put it back in the boat. Now makes a slight winding sound when turning over but wont fire up.

Hey, disconett the stering wheel and that should take care of the whinning sound and it wil start

Maybe the lower unit is stuck in gear and the prop is touching the ground causing the flywheel to turn when you turn the steering wheel.

he said turns a little ..whats a little ..does it matter ? what you want is it to turn when the engine is running ...did you break a flywheel key or similar as it wont run ...

Do you live on one of the earth's magnetic poles? I would bet it has something to do with the shift cable movement while turning the engine the shift cable mechanism is pushing against the forward or reverse gear.

I don't know anything specific about the L-Drive setup, but I am positive that you have some kind of bind in the drive. Best to take it off and review your assembly.
