Any history on this motor.---------When did it run last?-----Submerged and left abandoned ?----Can you turn flywheel by hand ?

Whoa there, in the video you are moving the flywheel back and forth a bit and coming to a hard clunk stop, even after the starter is disengaged. There is something serious wrong with that motor. Or more serious than serious. Problem will have to be located locally by inspection. Could be internal powerhead damage, internal lower unit damage, something loose under the flywheel, etc, etc.

Start by pulling the plugs. Could be as simple as the tank pressurizing in the sun, pushing fuel past a worn or stuck float needle and flooding one cylinder to the point of hydrolocking. As noted above, further investigation is needed.

Drop the lower first, could be gears binding up motor. Turn the flywheel once lowe is removed, will narrow it a bit between powerhead or lower

Going purely by sound, I predict it is something loose under the flywheel. Besides, the flywheel is the easiest place to start looking. UM..I wonder, is that motor one that has the glued-in flywheel magnets? I don't know.

Last ran in July and it was running fine. Started it again before hurricane Irma hit but the motor stalled and this happened. Any one know a good boat mechanic in Orlando?

Why pay $80-100 shop cost when you have all the techs you could ever need right here? After all, you asked the question here. Why not listen and do it yourself? Easier than you think with the right counsel

Let's not forget...most shops now can't help you if they can't hook it up to a computer and have it tell them what is wrong. Parts changers...not OB techs anymore.

Just looked at video...I'm with F-R, there is a hard stop. A clunk. Meaning mechanical. Something is physically stopping that motor from turning. Pull the flywheel and look for something out of place. Turn motor with flywheel off to rule out magnets hitting.

I agree with rothfm. Drop the lower unit first as the problem could also be there. Been there......

don't disagree, but think the starter gear might be jammed up at the top of the shaft. Might see if the gear can be rotated down by hand, freeing up the flywheel.

Thanks ronward very encouraging. I will pull the flywheel first and then let you know what happened

Good plan. Be sure to torque it properly when you put it back on - very important or you risk problems shearing the woodruff key.

Look at the video again. At first, the Bendix is indeed engaged and the starter rocking back and forth with the flywheel. But then the Bendix drops down and the flywheel still rocks back and forth with a loud clunk stopping it. Something is banging up against something.
