Foam and fuel hose

Progress made! I will be foaming the boat and have a question about the fuel fill hose. I am replacing the hose since the original 1986 labeled hose is toast. The hose goes from the bow/windshield, under the helm to the tank. It goes directly through a foamed area. (see photo) The old hose I pulled out was wrapped in a plastic wrap material where it passed through the foam. My question: Do I need to wrap the new hose with something or will it be OK to just foam around it? I don't want to screw up the new hose (all 10 foot at $7/ft). Interesting thing is the fuel fill hose was wrapped but the vent hose was not.

Thanks!

EDIT: This is a BEFORE photo. The stringers have been replaced.

Re: Foam and fuel hose

Your stringers are rotted.
Don't use the boat until repaired.
Search in here fore rotted stringers.
Sorry.

UUHH, yea, they WERE rotted...

This photo was BEFORE the stringer work was done. Actually, this was after they were cored out.

Maybe I should have stated that.

Cheers! :D

LOL,
Older boat needs new fuel hose, just on general principle.
Rip that old foam out; replace everything, including anti-siphon valve, and put deck back. Any hard-to get -to hose needs to be replaced.
(never seen a hose in foam, like that.)

Yep. Old foam is gone with the new going in next week. I seen hose foamed in before, but never really paid attention to it. i do know it is a big no-no to foam in the tank, but that is not the case here since it is over the bilge.

As for 22 year old hose, it doesn't like to bend anymore. I left it out for the trash guys today, but they didn't take it. I guess I have to cut it up.

You don't want to foam the hose, in case you need to replace it. Can you foam in a piece of PVC pipe to act as a tunnel for the fule fill hose?

YES! Excellent idea. I never would have thought of that. About the only thing I will have to worry about is the graduated 90 degree bend where the hose goes from the helm to the hull.

That is what I love about this site.

Thanks Chris.
