Re: for sale

matt

the way i see it, there's nothing wrong with offering a part to somebody who needs it. its when people start advertising is when the line is crossed! i think tmd was on the edge. tmd & rosco both help alot of people on this forum with good advice and a part here and there but neither are competeing with iboats.

Re: for sale

i am not a mod, i am not in any way related or dependant on this site. but i do feel that the doctor gave a good comment just before. whether he stays or goes i don't know, but he seems to be here as a helper instead of as a spammer. i guess only time will tell. :D

i hope until such a time as iboats.com can offer everything boat related- we will have others come here to give a fallback. ;)

Re: for sale

mattttt25, I was waiting for someone to pick up on that, put it there for that purpose, good job, you got your eyes open. The part I have won't fit his engine, I emailed him the correct part number for his engine.

There are a dozen free or near free sites to sell stuff on the net, thats where I sell my stuff.

Sorry TMD, twas not I that trashed your bosses computer.

This soliciting problem has been going on since the forum came online. I have seen it come up dozens of times. iboats policy is pretty clear, do not advertise, solicit, or diminish the income of iboats, from either sales or advertising fees. iboats has lots of dealers in their network, all of which have a stake in the ongoing success of this site and the mall. They have thus far allowed us to post the addresses of companies that have items that iboats does not sell, eventhough these sites do compete with iboats on some product lines. Perhaps this will come to an end also, with iboats ever expanding product and parts lines. Then we will all have to learn to speak in code, perhaps pig latin.

As I have stated before, I think TMD knows his stuff and is an asset to the board.

We now have another member offering parts and lower units on the forum, items that iboats sells. What should be done? Self policing sounds good to me, before iboats decides that this board is costing them sales, and shuts it down.

Re: for sale

Not that it matters.. but I'm going to have to throw my hat in with Roscoe on this one. I've offered for sale and or have given away parts on this forum.. with no problems.. IE: Getting crap from the Mods.. But I'm not in the Marine business anymore! If I were still in the business I would follow the rules here on IBOATS

Link

Re: for sale

The bottom line question here is wether or not TMD and roscoe offered to sell a part carried in iboats store or were they just trying to help a poster out.

Since the part is not in iboats store, I had to believe they were just trying to help and I left the post stand.

TMD, sorry to hear of the computer problems and rest assured that it was not the doings of iboats.

Mod2.

Re: for sale

I have made some changes to my conduct and to the way my signature reads.

As for the Computer...twas a coincidence. We have located the problem and are trying to repair it.

Roscoe...May I borrow your Decarb post? I will draw the attention to you. As people always ask how to do it, it would be easier to cut and paste your method rather than type it out.

Would it also be possible for the iboat admirals to come up with similar posts for changing gear oil/waterpumps ect. So that this can be done easier?

I really like to answer the problems of these people but..some of the ?'s get repetative and it would be less time consuming if we had some prepared answers.

TMD

Re: for sale

We have been hearing that a lot lately, TMD. Some questions are repetative.

To keep everyone in light (computer wouldn't let me say abrea*t) of developments, JB, Mod1 and myself are in the early development stages of a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) area. This should lessen the burden of our experts in several areas by giving the poster a place to go first with these common questions. We will be asking help from our experts so stay alert to posts in the General Outboard Discussion area or possibly the NTDWB's forum.

Thanks....Mod2

Re: for sale

Most certainly, all the info here is for sharing. No credit need be given to me, I compiled it from knowledge shared here. I purposely gave it the "decarb process" heading so if someone searches for it, it is easier to find.

Since I have little to no experience in outboard repairs, just maintenance, (luckily mine run well, so far), I often post links to other posts where the repair or diagnosis is covered. It saves lots of typing and little details aren't missed in the process.

Some other topics are covered in different sections of this site. Many repairs are listed on the outboard repairs page, but are hard to weed through.
Prop pitch/dia/rpm/etc, are covered in the prop section (above).
Shaft length and motor setup height is on the outboard motor sale link at the bottom of the page.
Unfortunatly, most people don't find their way there, or "search" the forum, but post a new topic instead.

Linking to other sections of the board also lets people know there is more to this site.

Copy, paste, link, and bookmark for future reference.

Bygones?, yes , bygones.
happy boating
