Guys,

I have a 1995 Force 120hp and I needed to replce the power tilt/trim motor. I put on the new motor and I can hear it running both up and down but I am not getting any movement. Is there anything I need to do when I fill the motor with the tilt/trim fluid? (ie run the pump up or down? Bleed it? etc) the engine moved an inch but that is it? Any suggestions are appreciated.. even if you think they are obvious because I am stuck.

Thanks

Hi, hang in there and watch for a response from RRitt, he is the tilt and trim expert from over your side, I think Cape Coral. He helped me with mine and he knows his stuff. Good Luck

It would be helpful if you can post pictures of your unit.

Having said that, the only thing that I can think of as far as special procedures when filling is that if your unit has the square base, it should be tilted all the way up to fill completely. I'm assuming that your motor is all the way down? You said the motor moved about an inch. Which way did it move? Up or down?

Check the fluid level again to make sure you just didn't pump all the fluid into the tilt/trim rams (thus emptying the reservoir) when you initially hit the tilt/trim switch. If empty, re-fill and try again.

Frequently, the fluid initial charge is simply not enough to cycle the unit. You probably need to top it off a couple of times as you try to cycle it up. Be aware that the fluid will foam if you run the motor excessively. However these tilt/trim units are self bleeding. If you cycle them up and down a couple of times they will usually bleed out the air.
