That was just in defence of sea foam. Have you cleaned your plugs, cleaned out the fuel recirculation system, adjusted your idle speed properly?

plugs cleaned, i will be adjusting the idle speed. working on it today or tomorrow. thanks again for the suggestions!

You said you " I thinned out the oil mixture a bit thinking that maybe the engine had picked up excess oil sludge in the bottom of the tank, and maybe I had added too much oil the last time i used it" This could have scored a cylinder or 2.
Do a compression test. A spark test too.
Then a complete tear down on the carbs. The welch plugs too.
Indian Shelack will seal the plugs when re-installing.
Initial setting is 1 turn out on the air screws.

Problem solved! here's what was done for the benefit of others:
- after all was said and done, appears that i had a couple of bad plugs. replaced them, adjusted the carb linkages, set idle mixture screws to one turn out, did an on-board carb cleaning with spray cleaner, replaced several hose clamps and older hoses. basically, did everything you all suggested. lesson learned - will do a better job of winter storage this year. thanks for all the great help - you folks are awesome!

I hope you folks are still there, cause i have a follow-on problem! after fixing and running the boat successfully thanks to your suggestions, I took it to the boatyard, flushed it good and parked it for a week and a half. Put the muffs on it today, and it started but wouldn't stay running in idle like it normally does and when you advance the throttle any amount, it shuts down. it will continue to start, and run at idle for 30 seconds or so, then shut down. anyway, i've basically flooded it so i'll let it sit overnight and try tomorrow. any suggestions?
