Hello to all,
I just want to relay my experience with a tilt trim leak down issue on my Force 120 hp. The issue was my tilt/trim would leak down in a matter of minutes so trimming under power was a problem and tilting the motor for trailering was a problem. I read as many of these posts on this forum as I could and the posts from RRITT seemed to point to the valve body. I removed the valve body from the trim/tilt motor and sent it to RRITT via his Ebay account. He rebuilt the valve body, I installed it and the problem is solved. I had to call him a few times with questions and he solved my issue each time. My tilt/trim does not leak down and works like new. To find his Ebay account search "flat rate rebuild".

I am leaving out the difficulties I had removing the trim motor (bolts difficult to get to) and (getting the wires out of the electrical plug in the motor, you need a tiny flat head screwdriver) but all of these things can be done by someone with limited mechanical skills, like myself. I advise reading all of the posts with instructions about how to remove the hydrolic lines without damaging them. Lastly thank you to all who posted their tilt/trim issues and responses. They were very helpful.

Re: Force 120 tilt/trim leak down

Wanted to pass along a tip on these tilt motors. I have a 1997 Force 40 and my tilt motor was a bit sluggish I thought. Along with my other problems I was getting around to working on it. Recommended in the manual, but I always do it with motors such as this, I removed the tilt motor, took it apart, and cleaned the spaces between the copper commutator parts, where the brushes ride. You wouldn't believe the brush residue that builds up and actually shorts portions of the commutator out, and can actually create dead spots. Now the motor rushes up and down.

Hope it helps,

Bill

aw shucks, guys. Thanks for the good word.

It is awfully nice of you to take the time and say so. It shows a certain kind of class (that I personally lack) to come back and post even after your own problem is fixed. Most people don't take the time to say thanks for good job. thanks again.

You reopened a very old thread. Instead, you should start your own thread so you can get better responses.
