Force 120hp idle problem . Stator?

I have a 1995 120ph Force. Last week it was running perfect and then one day (running at low speed) it suddenly started running rough and the idle RPMs are now 1500-1600 instead of 750. I changed the plugs but the idle still remains high at 1600. I think this is an electrical issue and with it starting up easily can eliminate some components problems. Does this motor have a stator problem? :confused: Any suggestion help is appreciated.
Thanks!!

I doubt it.
I would look at the throttle linkage and timing advance for the fast idle situation.

For the "running rough", I would look at the fuel, the carbs, and spark, before I started throwing big dollar parts at it.

There is only a few things that will increase idle speed;

dirty idle jet leaning idle mixture

intake air leak leaning idle air mixture

increased idle timing

Start looking and rule them out one at a time

Is timing linkage moving freely? Test with the engine OFF, shift into gear and open the throttle, loook at the linkage, pull the throttle back to idle, did the linkage return to its base setting? All good?

Now check for an intake leak, while at an idle carefully and lightly spray WD-40 or a good flammable carb cleaner LIGHTLY around the carb base gaskets, carefully and lightly only a small 'Pffft' at a time while listening for any change in idle speed to indicate the chemical is being sucked into the engine, also test the crankcase mating surfaces. No leaks?

Time to clean and adjust the carbs.
