I have a 1985 Force 125hp, model number 1258x5a. I was out last sunday, and the motor ran fine for several minutes, then suddenly cut down to less than half speed, and would not take throttle. When I got the boat home, I kooked the earmuffs up to the intake vents behind the prop, and no water came out from the motor anywhere. I tried starting the engine, and smoke came out from the 2 "peeholes". I had a mechanic look at the motor, and he thinks it may be the water pump, but we did not pull the motor apart yet. Does this sound like the water pump to you or what? Also, the tach and speedometer would not come on last time I was out, I do not know if that problem is related, but thought it might help. Please, please reply. Thank You.

buy a manual.check compression. make sure throttle is opening all the way i would put a new impeller in anyway cheap and easy.ive said this over and over.water pressure gauge very important.there cheap and easy to install.and good insurance.i have 1998 120 force the gauge is best thing i have did never have to guess about water pressure.all you have to do is look at the gauge.

water pressure gauge kit:

http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg... gauge&**********=966135960&*******=730264189

tommyp25- Welcome to iboats.

You may have a couple plroblems.
Force motors are difficult to run on muffs, hard to get the water to flow into the pump. Also, it can be deceptive, as the water may be flowing from the hose pressure and not from the pump.

The old impeller may have come apart and blocked off the water passage.

Get a repair manual, I prefer the Clymer manual, or a factory manual.

Start with checking compression, and spark, on each cylinder.

If they check out, drop the lower unit and remove the thermostat. Then take the garden hose and force water directly into the water tube, into the block. Then force water into the thermostat opening.

Remove old impeller and replace with a new one.

Tach problem may be indicator of electrical problem, possibly the stator or rectifier.
