Help, just bought a Cajun 1989 and a force 150 on it when purchased the owner started it up just fine. However, I have been working on trim issue, and it is now fixed. Replaced impeller and went to check out water flow, put new battery in it turned over spit and spurred and never started chocked it and almost started backfired and got difficult to turn over. Now when cold will turn over but after a few rounds and chocking will not turn over fast. Noticed some fuel dripping from carbs but have no idea where to start.

Re: Force 150 Won't start

First check for spark. If spark is OK, you may have just flooded the motor. These motors are easy to flood. You should only choke for 3 to 5 seconds at the most when cranking.

Here's the starting procedure written up by Roscoe, one of the other members on the Forum.

Check the kill switch, place in "run" position

Squeeze fuel primer bulb till firm.

Advance the throttle 3/4 way, without putting it in gear. -- This is done by either pushing a button in the center of the controls, or pulling the shift handle toward the driver, or raising the fast idle lever, all depending on what control unit you have.

Turn the key to the on/run position.

Activate the choke (fuel enrichment valve) by pushing in on the key. The valve is only open while the key is being pushed in.

Turn the key to start while continuing to hold the key in.

Release the key and choke when it starts.

3-5 seconds of "choke", is usually enough.

Be ready to pull the throttle back toward the idle/neutral position, when the engine starts and the revs increase.

Continue to pull the throttle back as the engine warms up.

You should not have to use the choke much, if at all, once the engine has warmed up.

Engine should start within 10 seconds of turning the key.

Hope this helps.

Re: Force 150 Won't start

Start with a compression test then a spark check.
Then check the starter, easy to take apart.
A backfire, can be too much fuel in the system or a jump in timing(flywheel key).
Test the flywheel key, remove the plugs.
Then cycle the motor by hand, insert screwdriver into the top hole.
When it pushes the screwy out all the way. Then check the timing mark on the front above the carb.
It should be close to the single hash mark.
Your motor is it 1989 150?
Newer has different elecrical system.

Update: Thanks for all the input, I could not get right back had a honey due list as long as your arm. Ok, I don't have anyway to check compression so I decided to take to Boat Works in Macon Ga. Called today and they said they would get to it next. I will post what they find out but biggest worry is worn out compression or sometime serious. Thanks for the help will post the results of what is done and compression.

Update: Boat place called number 5 cylndr low compression, took head off and scored wall on number 5 also broke off three head bolts getting head off. Have to change motor 1500 is too much to spend on a 1989 Force 150 anyone looking for parts. Plan on either selling as is or parting out on ebay, it is a great looking motor hard to belive it is going to be parted out the hood is great looking and I had just fixed tilt valve and was working fine. So here we go. Thanks for all the help, it was the compression check that led to the finding. It could be fixed but I don't want to spend that kind of money on it, or spend fishing time fixing it now.

It is the 20 inch as that is what I replaced it with, from the small Cajun 1989 Ragin Cajun bass boat. I spoke with the Boat works guy today at 478-471-6321 they have not sold it, I also have the turbo prop in great shape for 150.00 three blade which was one the Force 150.
