I have no experience with these motor and would be glad of a little help. I dont want to go beating on things and do damage.
The only problem I have at the moment is pulling the power head. It looks like the 8 obvious bolts screw into a base plate which also supports the lower cover. I have removed the nuts from the 8 bolts and the four bolts from the lugs that attach to the lower cover. Are there any more bolts/nuts to remove before I start easing with a bar. I removed the nut from the shift linkage also.
Thanks in advance.

There might??? be a bolt in the back center under the cover.
10 in total??
Look up a parts diagram and check out the adaptor plate.

Thanks for the response jerryjerry05. No bolt at the back in the center but I can see, tucked under the front, two large Allen bolts that I may just be able to get with a ball end. If those are the bolts holding me up that's a good engineering **** up. What say you?

The put bolts and things in the worst of places.
Good thing is they can be removed.

The Allen Head bolts or cap heads if you prefer attach the adapter plate to the block. The removal of the nuts on the 8 studs, the removal of the four bolts attaching the adapter to the lower cover and the removal of the small lock nut on the shift lever was all that was needed. I figured even Mercury would not put cap heads where you can see them but not turn them. Mind you in my time....... . Hanging the motor and stand from my engine hoist and using a pry bar freed the block up. Tricky pulling the block studs up through the leg. The balance of the block had to be adjusted and I had to take the block up a little at a time at the back and then the front. Too much on the hoist and the studs hung up in the leg casing. Got err off anyway.
Thanks for your input.
