I just bought a 96 Force 40 horse with power tilt/trim. Anyone know of a way to release it like the plain jane? I guess more specifically, allow it to go up and over logs/rocks without tearing things up?

it has a bypass valve to help minimize damages if you strike something in the water. I don't think it saves the prop so mucgh as keeps the engine from snapping in half. Other than that you just have to push the switch and wait. As long as we are talking about bypass valves ... always use the trailering bar when towing. More than one person has plowed a groove in the pavement because they hit a pothole and triggered the pressure relief valve.

Is the bypass valve adjustable? I grabbed the lower unit and lifted on it and was begining to raise the boat off the trailer. Seemed excessive to me, but hey, I've never been around one. thanks, Tom

not adjustable. internal to tilt ram. keeps motor from breaking in half if you hit stump.
