Re: Force 50 water flow

70-75 psi in both cylinders now with a fresh head gasket.

ideas Hondon? or anyone, I really feel like there are 2 sources of the exhaust/water leak the ehaust port plate, and the powerhead base gasket ( between PH and everything else)

It looks like quite a job to strip everything and remove the power head, or is it really neccessary ( per the manual) to strip the powerhead for removal to replace the gasket?

any ideas, info, sympathy, welcomed and appreciated!

Re: Force 50 water flow

ok, Since ive been told this engine is worn out, I thought I would try it in the water before I commited to fix teh exhaust/water leak.

well, at the lake it runs very well!, will even plane the boat out with 2 of us in it, speedo registered well over 25 mph but It sure didnt feel that fast so I dont trust its accuracy.
I have quite a water leak from a thru hull ( just found that out)so I was carrying a few extra hundred lbs of water also.

the exh/water leak I now think is coming completely from the exhaust port plate, so Ill begin tearing down and replacement soon.
Hondon, you were right its choking itself with ech fumes with the cowl on, its a night/day differnrce running with cowl on or cowl off.

I do appreciate everyones help, and hopefully once its leak free, Ill fog/de carb/ whatever and get back even a little more power.

Re: Force 50 water flow

Sounds like things are shaping up remarkably well. You are right in thinking that the leak is from the ex. cover. This is a pretty thin piece of material backed by another thin piece of S.S. sheet metal, kinda a sandwich . With overheating which I know you suspect these things often leak.As for your comp. go borrow another tester . I keep two in my box and verify one against the other then do leakdown.GOOD LUCK. A season or so is starting to sound realistic.

Gentlemen,

Please excuse my intrusion in your dialogue. I am a new (1 day) owner of a 17 ft Blue Fin with a Force 50 outboard (first boat). The previous owner was a bit vague on the gas/oil mix proportions. Can you tell me what you use? Any other words of advice will be welcome as well. Thanks, dkl

Re: Force 50 water flow

The mix is standard, 50:1
3 oz 2cycle TW-C3 oil to 1 gallon 87 octane gas. Don't use gas with alcohol in it.
2 times a year, clean the carbon out using a decarb cleaner like Valvtect or Seafoam.
You may have to change the plugs afterwards,as this stuff has a tendancy to foul them beyond hope.
Don't worry about intruding. This board is just a group of folks like you and I, trying to keep our boats going.
Welcome to the forum and congradulations on the new boat

desparate to find help with force 120 hp 1994 barely used over the years and ran great till last summer after changing impeller to waterpump

now won't go 20 seconds with the muffs or 3 minutes in the water before overheating and I mean blistering HOT to the touch with the alarm.

mechanic hooked up themostat that had been unhooked before
could that be the problem or is a blockage? don't understand how it could have become a problem all of a sudden. Wonder if he installed new impeller incorrectly.
thanks
