Hi all,

I've had a quick search through the forum but couldn't find an answer... I'm trying to remove the flywheel from my 1991 Force 70 motor to replace the stator - I've removed the nut with an air impact wrench and I have a harmonic puller to hand, but I don't know what size bolts i need to screw into the three holes on the flywheel to attach the puller.

Any info? They look 1/4"...

Cheers!

Bert.

They are pretty small, small enough that you need to use washers so it will grab the puller, and when I pulled mine off of my 125, they just pulled the bolts right out of the flywheel, stripping the 3 holes. I then drilled and tapped them to the size of the bolts that came with the harmonic puller.

Get the puller good and snug, then pry a bit (don't damage anything) and also rap on the center puller bolt with a big hammer, tighten again, rap again and so on, it should pop off like it wasn't even on and leave you wondering how it was so tight to begin with:)

Thanks baxtr - I'll try and get hold of some 1/4 bolts and give it a go, and if I have no luck, I'll use your solution ;)

Did it!

The only local place I could find that sold 1/4" UNC bolts was a classic MG workshop! Most regular shops over here only seem to sell metric threads...

Anyway, by swapping between turns with the impact wrench and taps with the hammer it came away!

Hmmm - don't like what I see - think I can feel another thread coming on! :)
