I just bought a 1997 , 75HP elpt , Force by Mercury motor. Is this motor a mercury or a Chrysler? Who manufactured the motor? The motor appears to be in good condition, but is it worth the trouble of installing on my boat? NADA list this motors value at less than $400.00. NADA list the Mercury 75HP same year model for about $1100.00 Their must be a reason. I would appreciate any help. thanks, Chodie

Re: Force 75ELPT

Mercury bought the Force line and after a couple of years discontinued the line.

The 75 is a regular Force /Chrysler 3 cylinder block, modified by Mercury to use one carb instead of three. It is mounted on a Mercury designed mid leg and lower unit. It uses the same prop as the Mercury small gearcase as used on the Mercury 40. Almost nothing is interchangeable with any other Force engine. It performs well and the parts quality is up to snuff, but for the above reasons, no one wants them used and the price is very low.

It does have a couple of nice touches engineered by Mercury that the original engines did not have--Big bore, long rods, and bigger crankpin bearings.
SO; Is it worth it? You should be able to buy it cheaper than almost any other engine, but in the end, only you can decide.
