Force 85 Cooling: No water from mid leg vents until Tstat opens?

Just replaced lower unit on 85 Force: on cold start no water at all from mid leg vents. Afraid to let it run too long, but wondering now if Tstat has to open before ANY water will show up in these mid leg vents, or should water sprinkles be present at all times?

Since there is always water being pumped through the block and exhaust chest, there should always be water coming from the rear idle relief vents.Asa A matter of practicality, it seems to be difficult to get water on muffs. somtimes it takes a little time before it shows. However, if you hold your hand behind the exhaust snout and water is blowing out you can reasonably assume that you will not overheat while testing in the driveway.

Thank you Frank, that was what I was afraid of. The LU is in a tub with inlets well covered, no muffs. Not feeling any misting at all. Installing tell line today and rechecking impleller.

While I had my 85hp unit in a tub, I would not get any water out of the telltail or the midleg vents. When I put the hose up against one of the intakes (while under water in the tub), then the telltale worked.

Sorry to bother you fellas. I didn't have the water in the tub deep enough to prime the pump. So I pay the stupid tax and screw around for two days troubleshooting a nonexistent problem. Message: IF YOU REPLACE A LOWER UNIT, SUBMERGE THE FOOT OF THE MOTOR AT LEAST TO THE BOTTOM OF THE EXHAUST HOUSING--FULLY SUBMERGING THE PUMP TO THE TOP OF THE TUBE--TO PRIME THE WATER PUMP.
