Force 85 Tilt Bracket and shift controller Question??

I have a new to me 1987 Capri Bow Rider with the Force 85. The engine runs great and had a great time at the lake this last weekend. The question I have is regarding the Transom mount and the engine tilt. There is not an electric tilt/trim but instead I set the trim with a bar when I lower the engine. I have to lower the motor by taking out what I call the UP HOLD bar (pic included) then I put in the trim bar where I choose and lower and lock the engine. Looking at this engine mount there is a small bracket on the right side and corresponding holes to have another bracket on the left that I would assume would have a notch to hold the engine up (not transporting strong but going up and down the ramp to the water strong) This would be great so I can put the engine down in the water from in the boat and not back down the ramp with the bottom of the engine with very little clearance..

I don't know if this makes any sense but hopefully it will..

Also my single shifter controller is "touchy" it has a release button I am guessing and I find a difficulty in moving from fwd to rev even with a pause. There must be some trick to make it work but I am not sure. The release button maybe after a pause in Neutral to prevent engaging too quickly from fwd or Rev with rpm's? any thoughts would be great or the controller might be not working so well and I can get a new single shifter controller for about $150 I see on line..

Your thoughts are appreciated

OOOH! I see you have the GOOD trailering bar! You are missing the lock plate on the port side of the engine. You need to check the holes, they may be stripped. If they are stripped, you will need to repair them. If you need or want a lock plate send me a PM with your email address.

As far as shifting problems, be certain first that the control cables are long enough and/or not binding. There should be a loop of cable in the splashwell.

Also, the center button disengages the shift so you can start the engine in fast idle position. There should be a lever/bar in the hand rest of the control handle. There is a lock in neutral that can be worn in forward so it is not working yet still functioning in reverse. You must squeeze the handle to disengage the lock as you shift into either gear. This is a safety feature that prevents you from accidentally bumping the handle into gear.
