Force 86 Model 507x6a Serial 1301 No spark

I just bought a 15 foot boat with a force 50hp. The engine turns over but i am getting no spparks. I have spoken to alot of people they advise me not to put alot of money into this engine cause parts r expensive. I am considering buying another engine but really dont want to give up on this one. ive tried the basic tests. But havent gotten deep into it. The engine does not turn over with the key so i knows theres a problem there 2 begin with but will that cause no sppark. i next was going to check tthe stator.

Turn over? The engine has to spin to create a spark.

Not having the motor in neutral will stop it from turning.
On the motor,a small black box with a yellow wire with a red tracer.
That box has a button on the bottom.
It must be pushed in to make the connection.
The shift arm pushes it in.
The battery hot enough to turn it over?
Is it clicking ?
A better explanation on what your doing and what you've done?
And what it's doing?

Profile? Location? You might be close to someone who can help.
The 50 is a good motor,easy to maintain,not real hard on gas.
Parts are comparable with any other motor.
They are available EVERYWHERE!!
