I have a 1990 Capri 1800 with a force 90 on it. I hit 35 with me and a passenger. We went out last night with 5 people total and brought a tube. It took forever to get to a plane and seemed real sluggish. I am told that the force motors are under powered compared to their ratings and am probably only getting around 75 horse. My question is.. The boat is rated up to a 125 horse. What kind of speed can I expect if I upgrade? I know I do not want a mercury or force again. My prop is currently a 17. Would changing this help me? I can't stand how doggie it is. Thanks!!!!

Whoever told you that makes us ethical liars look bad. It is pure hogwash.

I had 5 people on my 20 ft bayliner, 1 of them was a heavier guy, i couldnt plane either. threw him up front and we planed just fine :D

My force seems solid, just wish boat parts were easier to find.

I also have the a bayliner 18 with a 90 HP Force. I'm definitely learning by fire with this boat as I bought it used. As a first time boat owner I had the same issue last summer. I put planer boards on the outboard force and it definitely helped. I typically can get speeds about 37mph with myself, wife, a few kids. Having a few of the larger people sit towards the stern also helps plane even faster.

Weight is the issue, as well as where it is located. The fin on the lower unit will help get it up, but take a few mph off the top end. Make sure you're not full of waterlogged foam under the deck, also. 150hp Force on a 17'6" trihull, no gear, just me and I can hit 60mph on smooth water. 5 adults, three 6 gallon fuel tanks, and we're down to 41 mph....
