I have a 84 85 hp chrysler. Would a 86 85 hp force be the same identical powerhead? Is so for how many years were the the same?
Thanks,Tom:'(

The biggest difference would lie in the ignition system. If they have the same ignition components, they're pretty much the same.

Re: force and chrysler are they the same?

Well, I've been told by 2 seperate very informed sources that an '85 powerhead will bolt right onto a '71 lower. I hope this is true as I bought a complete powerhead, with all electronics, carbs, linkage, etc on it. Soon as it arrives, I will let you know.

Far as changes outside of the powerhead itself, I believe that over the years, Chrysler changed the ignition systems a few times-> from points to a electronic type with a distributor to a distributorless electronic type and the stator assembly changed along with that. And the carbs have changed slightly over the years, but for the most part seem to be interchangeable (in 3's if it were me though). Other than that, the power head seems to be relatively the same from the '70's up to at least '86 covering the Chrysler years, the US Marine years, and the early Force years. It's probably even the same from 86 on until the demise of the 85HP but I've never seen one so can't vouch for that.
