...well maybe its a bit of an anomaly but my Force 90 is working great!! I bought this boat about 2 months ago and I have had it about 17-18 times so far...and so far, all great!!
You hear a lot of negative about these little guys but mine so far is running great. I hear some talk about them being expensive to maintain but based on the amount of stuff available out there...they initially appear less expensive than the competitors. Who knows....but right now I've had absolutely nothing to complain about.
Hopefully that positive doesn't spoil the naysayers day.

I'm with you, BP... Had mine for 9 months, been out 10 or 12 times including 5 days with a lot of boating at Lake Mojave/Laughlin last month. Nothing but great times.

The only things I've broken so far have been my own fault, newbie hack that I am.

Mine is 23 years old. 85 HP. I have had it a year and a half. Had it on the water MANY times. The only thing that has broken was the starter. It gave me warning, as it started making noises.
Normal maintainence, and not running them out of the water are the best things we can do for these engines. Good oil, too , of course.
I wonder how many get ruined because of the muffs not working properly?

I just put in an impeller, and thermostate. Very easy.

Read the mercury forum once. Lots of troubles there too. LOL

And if you guys ever noticed: the Mercs and Rudes sound "tinny" The Force has a nice low pitched exhaust growl. Me: I own about 15 Chrysler and Force engines in various sizes That should tell you my feelings about the engines--Prior to changes Merc made.

Re: Force...one for the pro-side

I just finished rebuilding my 1990 90hp, I got the boat with a dead motor for $700

I learned a lot by ripping it apart, and I'm no longer afraid of rebuilding a motor. If anything were to ever happen to this motor again, I wouldn't hesitate at all to do it again, everything was pretty straight forward. May the force be with you ;)

1988 125...its fine after a Stator, and new prop shaft. We kinda know each other a little better now (spill a little blood, she will feel sorry for you,) and get along fine. Just had to get it away from the first clueless owner...bad parents are everywhere...;)

....interesting point Frank. I'm going to pay more attention to this but I think you're right. I was out in my Brother-in-laws boat sporting a newer Evinrude/Johnson....and it sounded a bit tinny by comparison....even my wife noticed it.
