Alright guys gelcoating my deck and I forgot to add wax. Plan is to lay carpet on top of deck. Gel coat was just for extra water proofing. Will this pose any problems? Can I apply bilge coat or anti-foul paint on top to cure or spray with PVA? Or will carpet glue and carpet cure it? Appreciate any help
THANKS!

your fine....

if you want ....spray with pva.

air inhibits (or slows the cure of gellcoat or resin.....the gellcoat you just did will remain tackey....it will also be impossible to get rid of dirt.

if you want to carpet.....just go ahead...

it will bond much better....

just dont stick your knees to the deck.....lol

No..please .. NO :) .. ( I dont even know how AF paint even came up in the equation lol .. but still NO ).

Is your gel still tacky ? Very tacky/Slightly tacky/no tack ? .. give us a heads up on what your currently experiencing and we can give better answers.

A lot of gels now seem better at leaving very little tack if no wax or surfacing agent is used.

Also..it depends on the curing rate of MEKP you used..

Lots of variables..

Not to get off track of the thread.. but Air does not slow down the cure of poly resins.

It only allows components of the chemical reaction to evaporate off of the surface before the other chemicals can react to it .. thus no cure..

The reason for a 'surfacing agent' is to trap all of the chemical components to 'work together'.

Gel is slightly to not being tacky. It was 80 yesterday and mid 80's today (I am in the Garage) 2.0 % cure rate.

I dont see any future problems with laying carpet down now. .. your gel is fine.

Do it like normal .. with the proper glue to the carpet ( hopefully its MG rubber backed carpet )

Wear a respo when dealing with the glue.. get a J-roller and a D-roller :) ..

Dont use that crap water based glue IMHO ...

I may have just gotten a bad batch of the water based glue that was made just for that application..

If your water based stuff is working then by all means use it.

I normally use contact cement ( nasty stuff though ).

Rubber backed carpet ?
