Fouled Plugs?

I run 6 gallons of fuel to 16 oz of oil (50:1) on my V6 88' 200 hp Black Max. The engine runs great, nothing to complain about... But whenever I take a look at the plugs they seem black, wet with oil around the treads of the plugs and a little tinted on the face of the plug. Is this normal? If I had weak spark I figured it wouldn't run well but it runs perfect. I have a new stator and 1 out of 2 switchboxes are brand new, but this happens on all 6. I have been using NGK BUHW, because that what was in it when I got it. However, merc and ngk page recommeds BU8H. Don't know it these could be the cause. It seems as if NGK BUHW is for 78' Black Max 200.

Andy,
I would put in the recommended plugs, put the cowl on and go enjoy the rest of the summer.
Best of luck,
Bob

Re: Fouled Plugs?

Bob-
This would be my thoughts exactly, except here in the Northeast we are plauged be non-stopping rain since fri and gale warning through this fri and more ran through sat. So I was digging into a problem I was saving for the off season. I digged a bit further and found that larger engines with t-stats stuck open are prone to excessive fouling. This coupled with the fact that I just found out that my engine had no t-stats installed, make sense. With the new t-stats and plugs I'm sure all will be okay.

How's the fishing in NC this time of the year? The water here is still 61-62 degrees with plenty of fall cows (large stripers), tautog, seabass, and bonito. With the mild weather I think the season is going to extend to at least the end of Nov. around here.

Andy

Andy,
I hope to get to fish some next week. Haven't been able to for about a month. Hope you have good luck with your engine and get some decent weather "up" there to get out and use it.
Bob
