I have a 2000 model Johnson 115hp oil injected 2 stroke. Every 2 or 3 times out, the plugs are getting fouled and are oil soaked. The compression is 140 on all cylinders and the spark is good. the boat runs great but I am tired of changing plugs. The last time out after I primed the bulb, I noticed a little fuel leaking down the motor. I don't know if this is relevant or not. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Fouling plugs

What temperature is motor running at and what plugs are you using?

Track that fuel leak down and fix it, fuel leaks can cause the VRO to cycle quicker, so you end up pumping more oil into the carbs.

Pump bulb firm and use a strong flashlight to search the leak out.

Re: Fouling plugs

I don't know how to get the engine temperature reading. I am using Champion plugs recommended by the manufacturer gapped at .030. Last time out I ran the boat at mostly 3/4 throttle.

Thanks for your response

Just test the thermostats to see that they are opening and closing properly. You can do that with water in a pan on the stove using an oven thermometer.

While you have the thermostats out you can check the seats.
