I have a 1997 240 Horizon Four Winns. A marina told me that the engine/outdrive are 1994. The engine is a 454 chevy with a OMC King Cobra outdrive. I have a small water leak coming into the the engine compartment. It appears that the water is coming in from the Transom area. Is there a seal between the Transom and the outside of the boat? Is the Transom difficult to remove? Thanks

i'd also post this in the inboard/outboard forum. i don't know anything about you outdrive, but most have rubber bellows, between the transom and outdrive. it could be your leak. do you know when the last time the outdrive was off for service.

Thanks for the input. The bellow for the drive shaft and the 2 o-rings have been changed this year. I have checked to make sure that the large clamp that holds the rubber bellow to the transom is tight and inplace.

It could also be the hose that brings the raw water in from the drive.

Re: Four Winns Transom Leak

On my boat which has a Volvo outdrive, the transom was rotten, and the bolts which hold on the transom shield could not be tightened properly to secure the transom shield, which could have caused it to leak. Yes on mine there is a seal and you may want to retorque the bolts to ensure they are tight. If they are tight, I do not think that a leaking transom shield seal is your problem.

Have a great day,

Rob.
