You cannot seriously think that Saddam was a threat to the US? He could not even launch a credible defense. Did anyone truly doubt we could roll over them? With half the force we used in the previous Gulf War? And we even found time to ridicule those that thought that might not be an adequate force! That does not sound to me like a serious threat to the US.<br />And was it about oil? Of course, among other things. With a US presence in the mid east, it guarantees Israel's complete dominance, with our help of course, in the region. That's number 1.<br /><br />Once Iraq's oil production is up to speed, we can render OPEC irrelevant, by replacing any amount of production OPEC wishes to take off the market to control prices. So we get to control the world oil price, and not OPEC. That's number 2. <br /><br />We are already talking about going after Syria, and already making a case for it, and it will of course be easy once there is an occupying force in Iraq.<br /><br />Domination. That's number 3.<br /><br />It is called Pax Americana. We will see if we wish to spend the money and time and effort and personnel to maintain it. And still have some semblance of an economy here.
