fried temp sending unit, any ideas?

I'm in the process of putting back together a 1970 Johnson 115hp (V-4) motor that was overheated. My problem is, the temp sending unit was fried out beyond use. It is the little wire that is embedded in rubber that fits into a hole on the side of a head. My parts supplier (usually very resourceful) says the part isn't available.

Does anybody have any ideas out there? I was thinking of adding a temp gauge (the warning light worked but isn't real effective). If so, how should I rig it up and/or fill in the little hole on the side of the head?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Dan - Find a new supplier. Those should be readily available. Try the red search engine at the top of the page for parts suppliers or Yahoo or Google search engines. Is your supplier an OMC/Bomb. dealer?

SoLittle-

He is an OMC/Bombadier dealer, and usually gets me everything but says it's unavailable. I'll try the search page. Do you know of a good way to get part numbers for my motor, so searching could be easier?

Dan
