I actually have the Johnson but same engine. Recently I ran about 1 hour and pumped 13 gallons of gas back in it. I was probably running between 5000-6000. This sounds like a lot although it is my first 'big' engine. I was expecting more like 7 or 8 gallons. The boat is a 20' aluminum center console (Crestliner) weighing around 2300 pounds with me, engine, gas and gear.

Engine is well maintained and just had 100 hour service. Does this sound normal? If not, what should I check?

Thanks!

I would doulbe-check your WOT RPM....that engine burns about 9.5 gph at 6050RPM on an 18ft Lowe Deep-V...I would venture to guess you are below 5500RPM.

Wouldn't I burn less if I was below 5500? Sometimes I run 4500-5000 thinking I am going easy on the engine and fuel.

Hi, Tony.

Your usage sounds a bit more than normal, but not much.

Fine tuning your rigging and trim could make a lot of difference.
