Hi, On a 2000 40HP mercury, how often should I change the fuel filter? The manual says every 100 hours or once a year. The motor is 3 years old with 50 hours on it. Should I change the one that's on it? It is original. Thanks

Re: Fuel filter change intervals?

Presumably your rig sits for extended periods of time without use given that it only has 50 hours of running over three years.

Gas sitting for an extended period, without some sort of fuel stabilizer additive, can turn into varnish and gum up your entire fuel system.

For the few bucks a fuel filter costs, I'd replace it and be 100% sure that it wasn't partially clogged.

Cheers,

Brew

At least once per year. If you use an in-line fuel filter in the hose, it does a better job of keeping dirt and trash out of your motor.
