Fuel Filters.....

My 225 Aquasport Osprey center console has a 225hp Johnson Ocean Runner.
It came rigged from the factory with a Racor fuel filter/water separator; the replaceable cannister type with a reusable bowl on the bottom.
Was this necessary, or would the specified OMC inline filter be as good?
The only reason I ask is that the Racor filter replacement element (looks like an oil filter) is not readily available at most marine shops, and it costs like $22.00 plus tax retail.
I don't mind the extra hassle and cost if it's worth it, but if the inline approach is just as good..........

...thanks in advance for your responses and expertise.....

later.....kf

Re: Fuel Filters.....

You should be able to thread a regular water seperating filter to your housing for around $5-$6
