I have a 1969 model 75 7.5 hp Mercury outboard. I have the gas tank, but no fuel line. I bought a universal fuel line with primer. I know this takes a push in and twist fitting. I am looking online and am confused. What do I need?

Re: Fuel fitting??

You need a bayonet type fitting, any merc dealer, or boat store should have the male and female ones.

Correct. But this is smaller than what I have been able to find. Apparently the pre-'71 small motors use a different deal. It appears the male end on the motor is buggered a little bit as well. I'll either convert it or do a search for what I need.

There's a guy on the Fiberglassics Mercury forum who posted that he had some New Old Stock of the small connectors so you might give that a shot.

I'm working on a 7.5 of similar vintage and had thoughts of mounting one of the "normal" sized fuel fittings to the flat plate over the air intake on the Stbd side of the motor, just Fwd of the shifter. You'd have to cut a hole in the lower cowling to accept the larger external fuel fitting, and maybe use a rubber grommet around the hole to neaten it up a bit.

Of course getting the correct-sized fitting would be a lot faster albeit more $$$ I expect!

Yep, the male end for the motor is $40.00 alone. I'm looking at going the OMC style route as I have a number of those and would just need a male end and some hose. Walmart has the male ends for about $6.00 IIRC. It's bastardization, but I am cheap and I got this motor and a 12' fiberglass boat for $175.00! The female end for the hose from the tank is a order only item and runs $20-$30.
