Fuel Leakage 86 Johnson 90HP VRO

Hi <br />I have an 86 Johnson VRo 90 HP. Whenever I tilt up the engine, fuel leaks out into the bilge area. The fuel collects in the carberator shroud while running. It appears that there is a tube that would port the fuel back into the combustion chamber from the bottom of the shroud via engine vacuum. I have replaced this tube with no improvement. Next to where this tube attaches to the tubing barb on the engine, there is a phillips head screw. Is there a valve assembly (or something!) behind there that might be replaced and assist in restoring vacuum to suck in the excess fuel? It is only a couple of tablespoons or so, but it creates a mess each and every time and I would like to repair it. Thanks for your help!

No valve or anything steve. Possibly the small hole in the barb is plugged up. You can run a small piece of wire through the hole to clear it out. A short shot of carb cleaner might help also. But give the carb cleaner time to evaporate before starting the engine.

speaking of manuals. its easier for some of us techs if the parts are refered to by the proper name as described in the service manual . anyway after checking the nipple on the airbox make sure the airbox gasket is in place. a small amount of fuel leakage at full trim is normal. if the gasket is intact it will be contained in the airbox. or you may have a leaking needle valve on a carb.<br /> good luck and keep posting

Awwww rodbolt......everyone knows the thingamajig fits into the dohickey next to the whatchamacallit..... <br /><br />Good idea bout the silencer gasket too.
