fuel leaking out of vent

I recently purchased a used aluminum starcraft bassv180 with a fuel tank built in the belly of the boat. My problem is when it sits uncovered with the tounge raised and the sun beating down on the boat pressure builds up and I have gas leaking out the vent. Is this normal and should I just plan on leaving the tonge down when I know it's not going to rain? Or do I have some kind of problem with my fuel tank?
Thanks Jim

Re: fuel leaking out of vent

My wild guess is that there is a loop in your vent hose and that the loop is full of fuel. When the air/fuel/vapor in the tank expands the fuel in the hose is burped up out the vent. If so try and work the fuel back down the vent hose by raising it as high as possible starting at the vent working towards the tank.

That or your vent fitting is way too low, where is it mounted?

Or you are raising your tongue six feet in the air.

My aluminum Spectrum does the same thing. If the tank is close to full it will run out of the vent. I loosen the fuel cap slightly and that allows the pressure to be relieved without burping out of the vent. I killed a lot of lawn before I started loosening the cap. Hope this helps.
