Fuel line question on 1968 Fastwin 18

Sorry, I'm not much of boat mechanic. I bought a Fastwin 18 and fuel lines go into the fuel pump and then out of the fuel pump the line goes into a port under the flywheel (like an intake manifold). There is no line to carb. It actually started and ran for 8 - 10 seconds like this. My question is I know the line from the pump goes to the bottom of the carb, but do I need to plug the port under the flywheel or is it for excess emissions or what?

You will need to post the model # here.----Or detail pictures.----To me with information posted it sounds like you have one with a conversion from pressure tank to fuel pump.----Newer motors just have fuel in to the pump and fuel out.----Pump is mounted directly over the PRESSURE port.

It is a model 18802M.

That would be a 1968 ----So one hose fuel in to the pump and one hose out.----There is a wee oil recirculation line that goes from the bottom of the block to up near the top bearing.---That needs to be in place.----Often see those broken or cracked if original.

Thanks for the input. I found the spigot down on the bottom so I will get some hose and see what happens, once I get the carburetor rebuilt.

I don't think you can just use hose. Oem is a very hard plastic type material. That line is what lubricates the top of the engine and plain hose would collapse under lack of pressure leaving your top end high and dry. I think there under 20 bucks right here. I just bought 2.

????----Just use regular 3/16 " ID hose for that lube recirculation line !!------No need for anything special at all.------Not sure where this ---" lack of pressure"---concept comes from.

Got the carb kit installed, new fuel pump, got it started but won't stay running without working the choke. Runs pretty rough.

There is more to one of these fine motors then a CARBURETOR REBUILD.----Post your compression numbers here.----And does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more , yes or no ?----That spark test is done with a simples test device.---Has nothing to do with spark plug gap.----You are testing maximum output of the magneto !

Yeah, I know I need to do all that. It ran fine 2 years ago so I thought it would be simple to get it running again.

Lightly close the needle at the top of the carb (clockwise). Open it 1 1/2 turns and try to start -- If it starts, let it warm up then fine tune (close needle 1/8 turn at a time until engine lean sneezes or stalls, then open about a quarter turn. Make sure you are running in enough water (say, half way up the leg). Cannot fine tune on muffs as there is no back pressure.
