Fuel line size

Ok so this may be the most obvious question asked ever. However i just replaced my fuel line from the tank to pump and the po did something i never would have thought of. He had 3 different sizes on the fuel line. It started at 3/16 and ended up at the fuel pump in 1/4 with brass fittings to make the size changes. It was really odd. So my question being this how will this have effected my performance? Wouldnt it have cut the fuel supply down or chocked it out? Or possibly starved it? Could it have caused my lack of wot rpms? Would this also explain the hard starting i had at times most of which were the first start? I know its a lot of questions but this was really odd to me, i have a auto tech background but outboards are a whole new animal to me. I know in a car this kind of set up could cause all sorts of issues.

It is a 1985 85 force outboard. I put 5/16 back on since it was the fuel pump inlet size, atleast it fit it snug enough not to pull right off.

O on a positive note. The prop shop i found through a recomendation of a fellow boater told me to come on here to get the most force support anyone could ever ask for. He had nothing but high praise for this site. Thought a bit of good news instead of questions would be a nice end to this post. Thanks you all this is the best place for any kind of answers anyone could look for.

Re: Fuel line size

The fuel line sizes should not make a difference.I run 1/4in on a twin outboard setup. 88/85's No problems.
Ethanol is messing with older hoses.Making them soft and mushy.Melting the inside of the hose.
Hard starting?? Do a compression/spark test.Is the choke working right? WD-40 on the slide will help. The carbs dirty?
No WOT could be water soaked foam. The vent line from the tank clogged. The wrong prop. The tach not working right.Fuel pump needs a rebuild.
Do the tests and get back with the results.J

Re: Fuel line size

Yea the fuel line going into the fuel pump was soft and squishy. I had found some gunk in the fuel pump filter. Since the other day i was out and we lost the top end power. I got home and pulled it and that was when i found some stuff rezembiling fuel line. So i replace the lines and cleaned the filter screen really well. I hope that is all i had wrong. It wasnt showing any issues prior to that day. I plan on taking it out and test starting it tomorrow evening before i take the fam to go camping. ONE OTHER THING I JUST THOUGHT OF WAS THE PRIMER BALL NEVER GOT "HARD" PRIOR TO THIS. NOW THAT I REPLACED THE LINE I PUMPED IT 2 TIMES LAST NIGHT TO CHECK FOR ANY LEAKS AND IT GOT ROCK HARD IN JUST THE TWO PUMPS.
